Malala is 16, from Pakistan and she fights for children's rights to education, especially for girls. She was shot by the Talibans 2 years ago and nearly died. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and I think she really deserved it ! She shares her prize with Kailash Satyarthi who also fights for children's rights in India.

This 1942 propaganda cartoon is a parody of "the Three Little Pigs". It takes place during World War II. Adolf Wolf signed a non-aggression Pact with Pigmania so 2 of the Little Pigs think they are safe but Pig number 3 is more intelligent and he is prepared for war !

Remember, in real life, the non-aggression Pact signed in August 1939 between Germany and Russia followed one week later by the invasion of Poland. WW2 then started..

Here is a film by Steve Cutts to show how man has behaved and how he has affected his own planet :

A reminder of my previous articles of this subject + revision of the present perfect and the vocabulary :

The Animals Save The Planet !

To do exercises with the Present Perfect, click on the Clermont-Brioude link, then look for "Present perfect Warming up 2", then continue with "Present Perfect 3", "present perfect 1", etc.. :  http://www.activites-anglais.fr/activities/menuact2.HTM

You  are a US journalist and you are going to explain the American election system. Use the text given to you  and read it !  You  can use a  text to speech software to listen to the text first :

This is Tim Burton's first short animated film. The narrator in the film is actually Vincent Price, an actor who played in horror films. Burton loved his movies and "Vincent" is an homage to him. You can find in  this film all the ingredients of a Tim Burton movie : contrast between light and dark, normality and strangeness, good and evil. Some people think that "Vincent" is in fact a bit like Tim Burton when he was a child.

Today we started a new unit on WW2 in 3e with a story of the Blitz  and how it affected the British.

Thousands and thousands of houses were destroyed in London, 3.5 million people were evacuated from big cities and over 40,000 civilians were killed between September 1940 and May 1941.

On the night of 29th Dec, 1940 100,000 bombs were dropped on London, that is 30 bombs per minute !

When he became Prime Minister in May 1940, Winston Churchill said : "I have nothing to offer you but blood, toil, tears and sweat". He was right, the war was very difficult for the British but they resisted.

The beginning of Narnia is a perfect introduction to this theme. Watch and enjoy !

We recently talked about cliques in American schools and illustrated this theme with the song "Creep" by Radiohead :

Then we went on to Lesson 3 in your "Join the Team" book, which is about music and the simple past tense. We started with a Muse Forum and fans talking about concerts they went to. Muse has had a lot of success recently, especially last year, with their album "The Resistance". You can listen to the most famous track of this cd, called "Uprising":

A link to an interview given by Muse : 3e - Muse - Matt Bellamy interviewed

And finally, if you want to do some exercises about the simple past (=prétérit), here is a great site you can use :

http://www.activites-anglais.fr/activities/past2/quiz1.htm

For one month, you have been working hard on these stories. It takes time to imagine a story, the characters, the events.. Then write it all in English, do the drawings, type it up... But you did it, congratulations !
